Tommy's Restaurant
About This Spot
Stepping into Tommy’s Restaurant in Hampton feels like finding a quiet moment of familiarity in a bustling day. The space is unpretentious, warm, and bustling in the kind of way that makes you feel welcome whether you're a regular or just passing through. The low hum of conversations, the clatter of plates, and the comforting aromas from the open kitchen come together in a relaxed rhythm that invites you to slow down and savor your meal.
This neighborhood staple carries the charm of a classic diner where the pace is easy but the food speaks volumes. It’s the kind of place where the morning light catches a well-worn counter, where cooks work visibly behind the scenes, and where the scent of freshly brewed coffee mingles with something unmistakably home-cooked. Here, the menu lives and breathes the spirit of straightforward, hearty American breakfast and lunch dishes.
Whether you’re drawn in by the promise of country ham with scrambled eggs and potatoes, or the catch-of-the-day seafood plates served with care, every dish feels made to satisfy real hunger and genuine comfort. There’s a sincerity in the way the portions arrive—generous and familiar, like a good neighbor’s invitation to sit down and share a meal. The flavors are rooted in tradition, with thoughtful touches that remind you why these classics endure without pretension.
Tommy’s isn’t about frills, but there’s a kind of grace in its simplicity. The staff’s warmth adds a layer of ease, and the room itself—cozy and a touch nostalgic—feels like a little corner of Virginia where ordinary moments are meaningful and shared. It’s a spot where breakfast isn’t just the start of the day, but a quiet ritual that connects people over good food and straightforward hospitality.

A great place to stop for a well-made and classic diner breakfast if in the Hampton, VA area. The decor is classic and the staff is very friendly. The food is the star, and I especially enjoyed the pancakes in my house special combo. It's worth noting this place only takes cash, and when I visited, their in-house ATM machine was not working. But definitely worth a stop if in the area for breakfast.

Only 2 complaints... they don't know what extra crispy has browns are And the 2nd isn't really a complaint... but thr sweet tea is extremely sweet. Also, very tight building, make sure to bring cash The food was delicious!

Not a boughie restaurant but I'm SURE I just learned about a neighborhood GEM! The food was down home and very tasty. The service was warm and friendly. The portions were GREAT. Food quality was what I was expecting (which is a good thing). I can't wait to go back. This is not a stuffy or fancy place. Be warned: IT'S CASH ONLY!!! (Yes I still recommend it )

I have eaten here a few times but not since they reopened. This was my boyfriend’s first time. He was eager to try it since I was raving so much about the place. The decor is typical of a diner. Reminds me of grandma’s kitchen growing up. The kitchen is right there so you can see everything cooked to order. The menu is wonderful and I love the fact you can have breakfast, lunch and or diner food. Tommy’s is a cash only establishment. It states that right on the front door. They also have an ATM in the lobby/waiting area. There are table and chairs and they do have a room for a banquet or large event.. Our server was an absolute gem. She was very attentive but not too overbearing. It was so hard to decide what to eat but I ended up choosing the “Breakfast from the grill” - 2 eggs, 2 bacon, 2 sausage and then two sides and french toast. I had no idea that it came with all of that! I’m very picky about my eggs and they were the perfect over medium. I also ordered brown gravy for my hashbrowns. My boyfriend ordered the 2 eggs with 2 country fried bone in pork chops. That also came with 1 side and toast or biscuit. You get very reasonable portions for the price. I would be surprised if someone didn’t end up taking home left overs. We went during a weekday. If you go on a weekend I highly suggest you get there when it opens. The line forms out the door and the parking lot will be full. But it is worth the wait! The only reason I give 4 stars instead of 5 is because the floor is sticky but other than that - well exceeds standards.
